Snowbirds are arriving – welcome to all
The hustle bustle of Christmas time is over. Life is taking a slower pace in the countryside of south Mississippi. Here at Clearwater RV Park, snowbirds are arriving to spend the next few months with us. The activity in the park is lively including potlucks, bonfires and card games.
Snowbirds are arriving from northern states including Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and New Jersey. The north is not the only area bringing snowbirds to Clearwater. Some birds are arriving from other areas of the country including Louisiana, Arkansas and New Mexico. The different cultures and areas add a unique populous bringing food, games and language from all areas.
The New Year’s Day potluck included the Cajun tradition of black eye peas and cabbage. Black eye peas for luck and cabbage for prosperity (money) throughout the coming year. Also German Sauerkraut made the old fashion way. There has been BBQ ribs falling off the bone that would rival any at Memphis in May. What about rhubarb pie – pretty much unknown in the south. Mirliton with shrimp was unique to the northerns. Part of snowbird fun is trying new and unique foods.
Snowbirds cook many dishes yet they also try local eateries. These include the many “down home” restaurants, interstate truck stops, local Mexican and abundant seafood because of the proximity to the MS gulf coast.
The major activity at night is card games in the clubhouse. The coffeepot is on and the bet is a nickel. Bring a snack, a drink, nickels or just come to watch and enjoy the conversation.
Daytime activities abound including local coffee shops, shopping and golfing. Venture down to the Gulf and you find casinos, restaurants, shopping and the Stennis Space Center. A day trip to The Big Easy is only a short drive away.
One thing that is certain – snowbirds at Clearwater RV Park are never bored. There is still availability for more snowbirds – give us a call (601.749.8142) and book your site. We are waiting for you…
