“Throw me something mister”, Bourbon Street, extravagant balls, night parades, wild parties – this is New Orleans Mardi Gras. And this is what most people think when they think of Mardi Gras. Yet there is so much more to the season than just New Orleans and Bourbon Street.
Here at Clearwater RV Park in southern Mississippi, we are centrally located to a large number of Mardi Gras areas. Our guests are within one hour of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, New Orleans, and the Northshore. Pick your Mardi Gras pleasure and it is close at hand. Many small towns, including Picayune, MS, have parades and balls.
If you want to enjoy the festivities yet not be in the chaos of big time parties and parades, visit Picayune and enjoy Krewe of the Pearl. Watch the parade or participate, for a fee, with a float of your own. Everything is open for decoration from an official float to a horse – boat, ATV, golf cart, you get the idea. The parade rolls February 11, 2017 at 2 p.m. If you would like to be among royalty, buy tickets to the ball and really get the feel of what Mardi Gras balls are all about. The ball will be Saturday, February 4, 2017. The event includes dinner, dancing and royalty watching. All information related to the events can be found on Krewe of the Pearl Facebook page.
To really know the taste of Mardi Gras, a King Cake is a must. This taste can be found locally at Paul’s Pastry in Picayune. The cakes are made fresh each day in a variety of flavors. With twenty-five flavors to choose from and also various combinations, think of a flavor and they probably have one available.
Haven’t satisfied your Mardi Gras appetite quite yet, drive over to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the day. Between Feb. 4th and Feb. 28th there are approximately twenty parades in various Gulf Coast communities. You can enjoy both day and night parades giving you a total experience. There are even balls you could attend – ticket cost varies and most are strictly formal attire.
Need more Mardi Gras, New Orleans beckons. Options to view parades in the New Orleans area are over fifty, both day and night. It can be over whelming, look at the areas and pick the one best suited for you.
